Artist Statement

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1991), DeShawn Oravetz is a creative director and visual artist currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. Pangaea is a multifaceted conceptual art experience that strives to create conversation, inspiration and action. Over an array of artistic mediums, the story of Pangaea transcends through coexisting works to bring tangibility to its conceptual core, togetherness.

Pangaea works to establish a permanent stage of conceptualism within Oravetz’s work. Utilizing Oravetz’s careful attention to detail, Pangaea pushes boundaries to set a creative standard for multilayered concepts that showcase a surface level aesthetic with deeper sociological norms, ideals, and challenges.

The fundamental concept within Pangaea is that of togetherness, focusing on the vital need for it in today’s landscape of challenges both within America and the world. The title Pangaea stems from geophysicist Alfred Wegener’s 1912 theory, suggesting that a supercontinent existed in the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic time periods 350 million years ago. In modern times not only have the continents drifted apart physically, but in a humanitarian sense as well.

Pangaea strives to pull us back together.
